Cruising the Main River (Oct 10)

Today we stayed on the boat, which feels good after all the walking the past few days.  Last night while in bed, we passed thru several locks which sometimes produced jolts to our beds as the ship bumped the sides of the concrete locks.  The locks and dams were inserted into the river to better control its flow and level, and we are lifted tens of feet going thru each lock.  Here is the closing of the lock door behind the ship after we entered:

Then water is allowed into the lock, lifting the boat. Here is looking forward into the lock with another ship in front of us

There is usually less than a foot of space between the ship and the lock

They had a glassblower from Wurzburg come onboard and give a glassblowing exhibition, he was a very funny guy with lots of jokes.  He studied under Dale Chihuly in Seattle, I guess Dale is a glass guru in the art world.   The red bull below (about 1 foot tall) was going for about $1000.

Speaking of red bull, the glassblower was extolling the merits of Jagermeister, a very popular "digestive" alcoholic drink in Germany, supposedly helps you digest meals, cure colds, etc.  It has 56 herbs and spices, and he recommended trying it (it has a licorice flavor) but not mixing it with Red Bull, which he says turns it to poison. Word to the wise!

This afternoon, I got my onboard massage...overpriced of course, but very relaxing!

Later this afternoon is a High Tea, which Jerry tells me is more casual than a Low Tea, and tonight, since we've been virtually starving to death, they are serving a 6-course European style dinner.
